Hello,

Good Morning,

I wanted to simply tell you about
a 2002 Chevy Avalanche that I had
serviced on 2 Feb 2005.

Andre came to me yesterday -
25 June 2009 to service his vehicle
for the first time - since then.
.....................................

You see - we had fully changed every
item over in this vehicle to Amsoil Synthetics.

And
We had installed a full flow remote filter
flange that had the primary filter
a SDF 15 and a Bypass Filter - a BP 90
mounted together.

In the 52 months since I performed that work ...
the vehicle had set more than it was driven.

However, I changed the SDF 15 to the new series
Synthetic Media Filter the EAO 15.

I added a quart or so of new Amsoil 0.30

I checked the AFT and Power Steering fluid

And put Andre down the road - for more trouble- free
driving.

His total maintenance costs - less than $70.
for nearly 5 years of service.

Charlie Shiflet's Mits Oil filter

Hello,

Just an after thought for those guys
who are following this message board ....

We cut apart the 22 month service oil filter
today - to inspect and see what would be
caught there.

All that did exist -
Was a couple pieces of chrome
... Something that may have come off
of a camshaft or crankshaft ...
Or even off of the oil pump
pressure relief valve ...

And a small amount of the long chain
molecule build up kind of junk that
does happen in petroleum lubricated engines.
...
That was washed to the oil pan and then
picked up in flow of the engine oil ...
And trapped in the oil filter.
******************************.

This engine had it's Amsoil engine lubricant
in it for
4 years - ...

It had taken Charlie some 4 years to gather
28,000 miles on the engine oil.

The Oil filter had been changed 1 time -
26 months after the first service.

And now this filter with 22 months service.

Everything considered -
No real junk in the filter.
No real plaque to condemn.

Simply residual left over
stuff - being caught and trapped
by the oil filter.

This filter is now part of a permanent
display in our shop - to show - just how
much plaque and debris - really exists -
Even when you use Amsoil long term -

Even on the OLD style 6 month/12,500 mile
recommended change oil filters.

Even used beyond Amsoil's recommendations
on engine lubricant change
of 1 year
or 25,000 miles in a year.

We would do it again -
And have started a new cycle -
with the last oil change a few weeks ago.

He is still running strong.

2004 VW Passat

Hello,

I wish to share this story with you
about a 2004 VW Passat - with a 1.8 Turbo Gas Engine.

with 46,700 miles - showing on the odometer.

The picture of his damages -
IS now my shop computer's destop background image.

The owner was a Tennesee native.
... traveling with his family.
Wife and children.

He called me in May/June of 08 -
Telling me that his engine started
making noises ... and that he was
us at Mc Donalds - about 2 miles up
the street.

Asking if I thought that it was alright
for him to drive the vehicle on down. ???
********************************************.

NO! was the reply.
Tow it.
*********.

When he, his family and the vehicle arrived.
Nothing doing, he had to start the engine
and drive it off the flatbed.

It was running - Still.
************************.

I sent him and his family on down
to a local restaurant - to set and wait.

And proceeded to look.
************************.

By pulling off the timing belt cover -
I was able to take hold of the exhaust cam
shaft and make it move more than 3/16"s of
an inch travel - up and down.

By removing the valve cover and all that mess -
I was able to see that the exhaust camshaft
oil feed galleyways had become plugged up

And all the camshaft journals - except the
very rear one - had turned heat scorched
flame seared - blue.

Another few moments - running and the
cam would have bcome locked up - and
twisted into several pieces, the timing
belt ruttted out where the cam would no
longer turn ... and piston to valve contact.

All a very expensive mess.
******************************.

Showing him this.
Remember the engine has 46,700 miles on the odometer.

He had bought this vehicle from a used car dealer.

He had taken the vehicle to a local tire store type
chain service center - and had his engine oil changed
ever 5,000 miles - with receipts in hand.

And the reality of it all -
Is that the oil change people - changed the engine
lubricants with what they had ...

But never thought to read the owner's manual
and install the 505.00 or 505.01 spec engine oil.
***************************************************.

Installing the wrong engine oil -
Allowed the temperature of the turbo equipped
engine to cook the oil.

There were either plugged up oil passaways - with
petroleum plaque - or enough heat existing to
cause the petroleum oil carrier - to not have enough
lubricant in the exhaust camshaft major lubrication areas.

Take your pick.

About 7 weeks later,
The young man's uncle and wife - came with a pickup
truck and trailer - and I helped them to load this
vehicle to haul back to Nashville.

Our Amsoil 5.40 European engine oil and a genuine VW
Oil filter - changed 1 time a year - or 10,000 miles service
would have filled his warranty requirements for
engine lubrication.

The oil would have never allowed engine damage such
as this to occur.

and

His warranty would be intact still to this day.

A Strange Request ... 2006 Jetta Diesel

Hello,

Yesterday,
There was a strange request -
From someone who essentially barged into
my work area in the shop.

I was on the phone - speaking with someone
that I have known for 20 year.

A Stranger to me - found his way in
was walking around a vehicle and
wanted me to get off the phone -
because he was there - demanding that
I help him.

In less than a minute - he was itchy.
Acting as if 'Why did I not get off the
phone to serve him.:
*************************.

It was a 25 Degree day.
***********************.

As it turns out -
After I ended that personal conversation.

He did not bother to identify who he -
himself is ... as if making a handshake
with me is not important.

He bluts out that he has a 2006 VW
Jetta Diesel with 87,000 miles.

That he has all the parts that are needed
to renew the timing belt.

And demands to know if I will put them on
for him.

Returning the favor to him.
I respond - "Absolutely NOT."

I do not know what you are even thinking
coming here to this business to ask if
we are willing to do such a piece of work.

Buy your own parts.
You also buy your own highly specialized tools.
And the correct service information.

And hope that you do not create your own
train wreck - by dealing with shafts and
pulleys that do not rely on keyways - but
only tapered shaft ends and cone mounts."

He left -
I am sure running his mouth about how
I ripped him off - by not having anything
to do with him and his car.

Yet again -
Had he had any spark of decency in himself.
He would have bothered to introduce himself
and likewise - I would have done the same.

Instead - I have the finest first impression
that this guy was a first class hillbilly
cheapskate - who had little self dignity
or repect for people who operate and manage
businesses that properly service high tolerence
European Import Engines.

And Yes, I do have the specialized tools
to service the injectors, set the timing by
computer and all that is involved with today's
latest generation VW Diesel.

I will not work for cheapskates.
Never have - Never will.
Don't EVER need that kind of business.
